Seanad Éireann - Volume 124 - 14 March, 1990

Business of Seanad.

Acting Chairman: When is it proposed to sit again?

Mr. Lanigan: At 10.30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Professor Murphy: May I ask when it is proposed to resume this motion and also, may I ask without any offence to the Minister for State, the Leader to use his good offices to ensure that a more appropriate Minister be present to take the rest of this debate?

Mr. Lanigan: I take grave exception to the remarks that have been made twice by Senator Murphy in regard to the Minister who is taking this motion. The motion is granted to the Independents and I will stand over the competence of the Minister who is in this House.

Mr. Lanigan: I will not allow a Minister of the Government to be run down by a group who are not really putting forward an argument against the Minister but for their own publicity purposes. We are sitting tomorrow at 10.30 a.m.

Acting Chairman: We cannot debate this matter. Is it agreed to sit tomorrow morning at 10.30?

Mr. Lanigan: The Senator knows exactly what we——

Acting Chairman: We cannot debate [749] this matter. I allowed the Leader to reply to the remarks of the Senator. We cannot debate it now.

(Interruptions.)

Professor Murphy: Why is he so acrimonious in this matter?

Acting Chairman: If the Senators do not sit down I will have to adjourn the House and Senator Murphy will not get his Adjournment.

Mr. Lanigan: This debate will be resumed next Wednesday.

Professor Murphy: We know that.
