Seanad Éireann - Volume 100 - 25 May, 1983

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach: As it is the normal time to conclude, and as the division bell is ringing in the other House and the Minister will have to leave, could I have some directive from the Leader of the House as to what is happening?

Mr. O'Leary: The position is that the House has not ordered the conclusion of business at 8.30 p. m. The Fine Gael Party and I are willing to continue if there is a unanimous view among the various groups in the House that we should.

Mrs. Robinson: We have to take the Fifth Stage of this Bill once the amendments are dealt with and then we have a Referendum Bill and that could lake some very considerable time.

Mr. Lanigan: I concur with the views [1185] of Senator O'Leary, but it is obvious from what Senator Robinson has said that it is unlikely that we are going to conclude at a reasonable time this evening. If we could have an indication that we might finish in ten minutes or an hour or two hours I would definitely concur with the view of the Leader of the House but it is obvious from what Senator Robinson has said——

Mr. O'Leary: In a matter like this the unanimous approval of the various [1186] groups in the House is required. That is my view on the matter.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach: Perhaps the Minister would like to leave.

Mr. O'Leary: I move that the House adjourn until 10.30 a.m. tomorrow.

The Seanad adjourned at 8.30 p.m. until 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, 26 May 1983.
