Seanad Éireann - Volume 82 - 30 July, 1975

Employment Premium Bill, 1975: Fifth Stage.

Question proposed: “That the Bill do now pass.”

Mr. Yeats: I just want to put one query to the Minister which I had [1166] intended to put to him on section 2. I forgot about it and I think it is relevant now. This is, in effect, a subsidy to industry, and I wonder has the Minister considered the possibility that we may be in breach of the rules of the EEC. I am not saying we are in breach of the rules of the EEC and that he should necessarily thereby consider abandoning the scheme, but it is a matter that ought to be considered as to whether we are in breach of the EEC rules with regard to the subsidisation of industry.

Mr. O'Leary: We understand we are not in breach of any provision, but the Senator is wise to mention that.

Question put and agreed to.
