Dáil Éireann - Volume 686 - 30 June, 2009 Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs. Deputy Olwyn Enright Deputy Olwyn Enright Deputy Olwyn Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if the role of a special needs organiser is solely to allocate appropriate levels of resources to a school rather than to assign particular special needs assistants to particular pupils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26114/09] Deputy Batt O’Keeffe Deputy Batt O’Keeffe Deputy Batt O’Keeffe: As the Deputy will be aware, the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) is responsible, through its network of local Special Educational Needs Organisers (SENOs), for allocating additional resources to schools to support children with special educational needs. The NCSE operates within my Department’s criteria in allocating such support. The SENO has no role in assigning individual special needs assistants to particular pupils. The Principal Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school, including guidance and direction of the teachers and other staff of the school. Dáil Éireann 686 Written Answers.
