Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will support a matter (details supplied). [6469/09]

Deputy Batt O’Keeffe: I am pleased to advise the Deputy that the parent’s fears, as outlined in his letter, are unfounded. I note from the parent’s letter that the pupil was not attending a special class and was mainstreamed with access to the school’s learning support/resource teacher and that the pupil thrived with this level of support. Pupils, such as the pupil in question, will continue to receive additional teaching support in schools through the General Allocation Model of resource teaching which is available to all primary schools. There has been no change in this policy. These resources are available to schools in addition to the school’s allocation of classroom teachers, based on a school’s overall pupil enrolment.
