Dáil Éireann - Volume 668 - 25 November, 2008

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Deputy Ciarán Cuffe asked the Minister for Defence the estimated spend on mileage allowances for his Department in 2007; the number of claimants in respect of categories (details supplied) under which mileage is paid; the total number of claimants; and the total spend on same. [42621/08]

Deputy Willie O’Dea: I have outlined in the following table the total number of claimants and the total amount spent in respect of mileage allowances for civil servants and civilian employees of my Department in 2007. However, it is not possible to provide a breakdown of mileage allowance into the other categories requested, except to say that no payments were made in respect of the cycling allowance. A breakdown of data into the other categories is not held in the required format on our Expenses System and it would take an inordinate amount of time and resources to manually compile the information.
