Deputy Willie O’Dea: The primary responsibility for law and order, including the protection of the internal security of the State, rests with An Garda Síochána. [207] The Defence Forces pursuant to their role of rendering aid to the civil power, assist the Gardaí as required. The role does not extend to general policing which falls solely within the remit of An Garda Síochána.
