[37477/08] Deputy Brendan Smith Deputy Brendan Smith Deputy Brendan Smith: A good deal of work has already been undertaken and significant progress has been made on drafting the proposed Animal Health and Welfare Bill, which is intended to give effect to a number of commitments, in the area of animal health and welfare, contained in the Programme for Government. Following the public consultation process initiated earlier in the year on the draft Bill, almost 400 submissions were received containing wide-ranging observations and these are now being examined. A number of those who contacted the Department asked that they be given an opportunity to elaborate further on their submissions before finalisation of the draft legislation and these requests are under consideration. Drafting of the legislation is continuing and this will have regard to all submissions received. Dáil Éireann 665 Written Answers. Proposed Legislation. Questions 20081030
