Dáil Éireann - Volume 663 - 14 October, 2008 Written Answers. - Electricity Supply. Deputy Ciarán Lynch Deputy Ciarán Lynch Deputy Ciarán Lynch asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the procedures and costs involved in enabling a supplier to connect to the national electricity grid; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [34935/08] Deputy Eamon Ryan Deputy Eamon Ryan 682 Deputy Eamon Ryan: I have no statutory function in the matter. EirGrid is the independent State-owned body responsible for the operation, development and maintenance of the transmission system. ESB Networks is responsible for the operation, development and maintenance of the distribution system. EirGrid also offers terms and levies charges to market participants for the connection to and use of the transmission system, which are regulated by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER). Nevertheless, given the central energy policy responsibility of my Department, we are [682] in discussion with CER, EirGrid and ESB Networks with a view to progressing necessary arrangements to underpin connections by developers of micro generation and larger scale generation projects to the national grid.
