Dáil Éireann - Volume 655 - 21 May, 2008

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Representation.

Deputy Charlie O’Connor asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will confirm plans to establish an embassy in Ukraine. [20071/08]

Deputy Micheál Martin: The opening of further resident diplomatic missions abroad, including the Ukraine, is considered by the Government on an ongoing basis. However, any expansion of our overseas network can only be undertaken on the basis of clear priorities. The current position is that our Ambassador to the Czech Republic is also accredited to the Ukraine on a non-resident basis, and there are no plans at present to change this arrangement. In addition to the above, Ireland’s Honorary Consul in Kiev, Mr Volodymyr Say, provides a high quality service on the ground in the Ukraine.
