Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the position in relation to a matter (details supplied). [13567/08]

Deputy Dermot Ahern: The Department of Foreign Affairs has a limited amount of funding at its disposal through the Department’s Reconciliation Fund, which is primarily targeted at voluntary organisations involved in community reconciliation work. The purpose of the Fund is to assist organisations involved in reconciliation work and to encourage and facilitate better relations within and between the two traditions in the North, between North and South, and between Ireland and Britain.

[710] Decisions on funding from the Reconciliation Fund are a matter for the Minister on foot of the recommendations of an interdepartmental Advisory Committee comprised of officials from a number of Government Departments. Officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs have been in direct contact with the individual in question, and an application form and a set of guidelines for the Reconciliation Fund have been forwarded to him. If he considers that the project meets the objectives of the Fund, he may submit an application which will be considered in accordance with these arrangements.
