  Deputy Noel Dempsey: The planning and design of railway upgrade works is a matter for Iarnród Éireann. I am informed by Iarnród Éireann that the current position regarding the removal of level crossings on the Maynooth line is that a study has been completed to the investigate the feasibility of closures of the level crossings. Iarnród Éireann is now in discussion with the local authorities with a view to formulating joint proposals to facilitate the closures including the necessary road and bridge works.

The timescales for these works will be dependant on local authority road schemes. Iarnród Éireann has also advised that the resignalling of the Maynooth line, which will be completed by the end of 2011, may precede some of the crossing closures.
