Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Education and Science if an appeals mechanism is available for a student who failed their leaving certificate maths exam in 2007 and wishes to re-apply as an external student to re-sit the exam but missed the deadline for same; the procedure to be followed in such cases; and if she will make a statement on the matter.   Deputy Mary Hanafin: The State Examinations Commission has statutory responsibility for operational matters relating to the certificate examinations, including organising the holding of examinations and determining procedures in places where examinations are conducted.
