Deputy Michael McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in County Cork with special needs can be provided with the required dental treatment. [6115/08]

  Deputy Mary Harney: The Deputy’s question relates to the funding, management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.

Deputy Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Cork University Dental School does not provide a service for special needs patients to have restorative treatment under general anaesthesia; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6140/08]

  Deputy Jimmy Devins: Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services was assigned to the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004 and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall vote. The Executive, therefore, is the appropriate body to consider the particular case raised by the Deputy. My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have the matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.

Deputy Bernard Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork, who is 25 years old, has Down’s syndrome with an intellectual disability and a history of cardiac murmur, has been refused dental treatment under general anaesthetic on the grounds that they are too old to receive general anaesthetic treatment.
