Dáil Éireann - Volume 647 - 14 February, 2008

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Deputy Joe Costello asked the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the situation of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7; if there is any source of funding for minors in this area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5696/08]

Deputy Mary Harney: The Deputy’s question relates to the funding, management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy. In regard to the Deputy’s question on funding, the Programme for Government contains a commitment to create an orthodontic fund in the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) to treat children who have been waiting the longest for treatment. Officials from my Department will examine the steps involved in advancing this issue while also having discussions with the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
