Deputy Michael Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when an application for a certificate of naturalisation will be finalised for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [33378/07]

  Deputy Brian Lenihan: An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to in the Deputy’s question was received in the Citizenship section of my Department in September 2005. On examination of the application it was determined that the person concerned did not meet the statutory residency criteria as set out in the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956, as amended. A letter informing him of this was issued on 29 September 2005. It is open to the person in question to lodge a new application if and when he is in a position to meet the statutory requirements applicable at that time.
