Deputy Mary Hanafin: An application for funding for a major capital project has been received from the school authority of St Patrick’s Boys Primary School. The application has been assessed in accordance with the published prioritisation criteria for large scale building projects. It has been determined that in order to meet the long term needs of the school, the existing primary school requires to be developed into a 24 classroom facility (a three stream school) with appropriate ancillary accommodation. This has been [1650] agreed with the school authority. Progress on the project will be considered in the context of the multi-annual school building and modernisation programme.

In this context, the Department has also contacted St Brigid’s Girls Primary school to review its long-term needs.

While the Department has no application for capital funding at post primary level, it is keeping the situation of capacity under review.
