Mr. O’Dowd Mr. O’Dowd
Mr. O’Dowd asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if a person (details supplied) in County Louth will be granted rent allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6789/07]
Mr. Brennan Mr. Brennan
Mr. Brennan: The supplementary welfare allowance scheme, which is administered on behalf of my Department by the Health Service Executive, provides for the payment of a weekly or monthly supplement in respect of rent to eligible persons in the State whose means are insufficient to meet their accommodation needs.
The Executive has advised that, the person concerned was in receipt of rent supplement up to June 2006. Payment ceased at that point as the person in question was deemed to have sufficient income to meet her rental costs. The Executive has further advised that she should contact the local Community Welfare Officer if she wishes to make a new application for rent supplement.
