Mr. McCormack Mr. McCormack
Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if a design team has been appointed in order to advance the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6121/07]
Mr. M. Higgins Mr. M. Higgins
Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science if her attention has been drawn to the increase of pupils in primary schools here growing at an extremely fast pace and that in many locations demand will jeopardise a suitably safe environment for students and their teachers; if her attention has been further drawn to a primary school (details supplied) in County Galway which is a case in point; her views on this case; and her plans to avoid the problems and overcrowding which seem likely to occur in this school. [6393/07]
Ms Hanafin Ms Hanafin
Ms Hanafin: I propose to take Questions Nos. 492 and 502 together.
An application for capital funding towards the provision of an extension has been received from the school referred to by the Deputy and has been assessed. The long term projected staffing, on which the accommodation needs will be based, has been determined and notified to the school authority. My officials are in the process of drawing up a detailed accommodation brief for this school. A site visit is required in order to inform the final brief for the project and officials will be in contact with the school authority to arrange a site visit. On completion of the brief, the project will be considered in the context of the School Building and Modernisation Programme 2007-2011.
