Dáil Éireann - Volume 630 - 31 January, 2007

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the number of persons engaged in project management in his Department that have recognised qualifications in that area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3245/07]

Mr. N. Dempsey: There are 55 staff members working at various levels of project management in my Department. Three of these staff members have relevant recognised third level qualifications and a further 51 have had formal training in project management. My Department operates an ongoing staff development programme to build up and enhance skills and competencies in-house in order to meet the challenges of delivering on its diverse policy and development mandate.

The Department also seeks to avail of skills and experiences of other Departments or other parts of the public sector, particularly from State Bodies under our aegis, where appropriate. External support may be considered, and engaged, in line with value for money imperative and public sector guidelines.
