Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Transport the reason driving tests have been outsourced to the National Car Test. [41237/06]

  Mr. Brennan: A block of 40,000 driving tests, which can be extended to 45,000 tests if necessary, was outsourced to SGS Ltd., the company contracted to conduct driving tests, as part of a package of measures to reduce the driving test backlog that also included employment of additional staff and a bonus scheme for staff. The Road Safety Authority now has responsibility for the delivery of driving tests and the operation of the outsourcing contract.
