Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has made representations to the energy regulator with regard to the need for a revision of the proposed gas prices for 2006 and 2007 due to the recent falls in the futures market price for gas.   Mr. N. Dempsey: Gas and electricity tariffs are the statutory responsibility of the Commission for Energy Regulation, under the Electricity Regulation Act, 1999 and the Gas (Interim) (Regulation) Act, 2002. I have therefore no statutory function in relation to these issues.

The Regulator is on record as confirming an openness to review tariffs in light of definitive international trends.
