Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the amount spent to date by his Department on private consultants for their role in the implementation of each of the different regional waste management strategies. [31695/06]

Mr. Roche: Under the Waste Management Acts the statutory power for the preparation, review and adoption of waste management plans rests with the relevant local authorities, generally acting in regional groupings. Costs associated with this process are a matter for the authorities concerned. My Department has no direct role in this matter and does not directly incur costs in relation to it.
