Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the position of the proposed dialysis unit at Beaumont; the cost of this unit; the proposed date for completion of this project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28007/06]

  Ms Harney: The Deputy’s question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.

Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children her proposals in relation to calls for increased funding of neurosurgery in the public sector; her plans to provide such funding; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28008/06]

  Ms Harney: At the request of my Department, a committee was established by the former Comhairle na nOspidéal, to review arrangements for the provision of neurosurgical services and consultant staffing nationally, and following consultation with the interests concerned, to make recommendations on the future organisation and development of neurosurgical services.

[1444] My Department has been informed that the report will be published shortly.

The future development of neurosurgery services will be considered in the light of the report and resources available.
