Ms C. Murphy asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of purpose built special educational units built in each year since 2000; the number of those units being used for the purpose they were built; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24768/06]

  Ms Hanafin: The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. I can however confirm for the Deputy that under the prioritisation criteria for large scale building projects, the provision of specialist accommodation for children with special needs attracts a Band 1 rating. This is the highest rating possible which is indicative of my Department’s commitment to ensuring that where accommodation needs are identified, these are addressed in the shortest time frame possible.
