Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

  255. Mr. Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if his Department has received an application from Kildare County Council for funding for additional accommodation at a hostel (details supplied) in County Kildare; if payment will issue in this case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [38364/05]

Mr. N. Ahern: Local authorities and the Health Service Executive are responsible for meeting the accommodation and health care needs of homeless persons. While the level of accommodation related funding applicable to this type of project is, in the first instance, a matter for decision by the local authority in whose area the project is situated, my Department recoups to the authority 90% of such funding. In this context, Kildare County Council has been requested to submit information to clarify certain aspects of the proposal to increase the funding for the project in question. On receipt of this information, the matter will be further considered.
