  527. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position in relation to citizenship application in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 15; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32825/05]

  Mr. McDowell: An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to by the Deputy was received in the citizenship section of my Department on 30 April 2002.

I considered his application under the provisions of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956, as amended and decided not to grant a certificate of naturalisation. This decision, along with a copy of the submission detailing the reasons for the decision, was sent to the solicitors acting on behalf of the person in question on 1 February 2005.

  Mr. McDowell: An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to by the Deputy was received in the citizenship section of my Department in February 2003. I considered his application under the provisions of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956, as amended, and I decided not to grant a certificate of naturalisation. This decision, along with the reasons for same, was communicated to the solicitors acting for the applicant in April 2005. I have been informed by my officials that there is no record of an application having been received from the wife of the person concerned.
