219. Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance his estimate of the savings accruing to the Exchequer from the amendment of the Freedom of Information Act in 2003. [18160/05]

Mr. Cowen Mr. Cowen

Mr. Cowen: The focus of the Freedom of Information (Amendment) Act 2003 was on enhancing the protections for Government records and records relating to the deliberations of Departments of State. No estimate of the type referred to by the Deputy has been made. The primary purpose of the Act was to ensure continued effective government and I am fully satisfied that it has fulfilled this objective.
