Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding his consideration of the recommendations of the [142] legal advisory group on the defamation law, particularly in regard to the proposals for the establishment of a statutory press council; when he intends to bring proposals on this matter to Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter.   Mr. McDowell:I intend to bring forward proposals for the reform of the law on defamation to the Government in the near future on completion of the extensive consultations in which I have engaged on the matter.
