Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

[219]   289. Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if it is regular practice for a hospital (details supplied) to give a patient’s (details supplied) details to a third party without first notifying the patient; is it normal practice for the same hospital to make a separate charge to a patient who may take a successful personal injury claim; and if she will make a statement on the matter.   Ms Harney: The Health Act 2004 provided for the Health Service Executive, which was established on 1 January 2005. Under the Act, the executive is required to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. Services at St. James’s Hospital, Dublin, are provided under an arrangement with the executive and my Department has requested the chief officer for the executive’s eastern regional area to examine the issues raised and to reply to the Deputy directly.
