  275. Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of primary [889] teachers retiring in 2005; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [33813/04]

  Ms Hanafin: Based on experience in recent years, it is estimated that about 550 primary teachers will retire on pension in 2005. It is difficult to estimate precisely the numbers who will retire in any particular year since the majority of teachers retire voluntarily before reaching age 65.
