185. Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the number of theatres and art centres opened by local authorities and funded by the capital grants section of his Department in each of the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28405/04]

Mr. O’Donoghue: My Department’s ACCESS scheme provides for capital grant aid to 44 arts and culture projects around the country, including 17 which are directly promoted by local authorities. These grants were approved in 2001. One of these projects has drawn down its full grant allocation and another five are at the final stage of grant draw down. The remaining projects are at differing stages of completion. The opening of these facilities is a matter for each local authority.
