Written Answers. - Drugs in Prisons.

  62. Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made in regard to his consideration of the draft proposals for a new prison drugs policy prepared by Irish Prison Service management; if it is intended to publish the proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16308/04]

Mr. McDowell:I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 67 of 5 May 2004 in which I indicated that I am considering proposals for a new prison drugs policy and examining whether it would be effective in ridding our prisons of [1245] drugs. It is my intention to publish the new policy in due course.
