  1152. Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when an application for naturalisation by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 is scheduled for determination; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20129/03]

  Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell): An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to by the Deputy was received in the citizenship section of my Department on 16 October 2002.

  The average processing time of applications for naturalisation is approximately 15 to 18 months at the present time. Consequently, it is likely that the application of the person concerned will be finalised in early 2004.

  As soon as I have reached a decision on the matter, I will inform both the applicant and the Deputy of the outcome.
