Mr. Durkan Mr. Durkan
140. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance when a refund of income tax paid will issue in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14812/03]
Mr. McCreevy Mr. McCreevy
Minister for Finance (Mr. McCreevy): I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer made a claim for the one-parent family tax credit in March 2002. A taxpayer who is a single parent, and who is not living with another person as man or wife, may claim the one-parent family tax credit for a qualifying child. The child must reside with the claimant for the whole or part of the year of the claim.
The inspector of taxes wrote to the taxpayer in March 2002 and again in July 2002 requesting the information required to process his claim – his P60 forms and confirmation that the taxpayer had not lived with another person as man or wife during the periods to which his claim relates. The inspector has no record of having received a reply. When the inspector receives the required information, the taxpayer's claim will be processed as quickly as possible.
