Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey): The authorities at St. Patrick's special school in Kilkenny have advised my Department that the child referred to by the Deputy is one of four pupils enrolled in an autism class in the school. The class has staffing of one teacher and two special needs assistants to support the needs of the pupils. A teacher has been appointed to the class on a temporary basis while the school authorities are making on-going efforts to secure the services of a fully qualified teacher.
