[724]  60. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his proposals to encourage participation in the arts at primary and post-primary school level; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2240/03]

  Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism (Mr. O'Donoghue): The development of the school curriculum at primary and post-primary school level is a matter for the Minister for Education and Science. A new Arts Bill which will, for the first time, recognise the position of the Minister responsible for the arts in the formulation of broad arts policy, is currently under consideration by the Oireachtas, and the question of education and the arts is one of the issues that I hope to address as a priority following enactment of the Bill.
