Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes.

  31. Mr. Boyle asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason following the decision to reduce numbers participating on community employment schemes, additional supervisors for community employment schemes are continuing to be taken on and trained; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2264/03]

Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (Mr. Fahey): A number of community employment, CE, supervisors leave the CE programme every year to take up work in the open labour market and replacement supervisors are taken on and trained by FÁS in supervisory management skills to fill these positions.

Supervisors being made redundant as a result of the reductions in numbers on the CE programme are notified of supervisor vacancies as they arise and every effort is made by FÁS to fill such vacancies with trained supervisors. However, this is not always possible due to the location of the vacancy or in circumstances where the redundant supervisor may wish to take up employment elsewhere.
