Mr. O'Dowd Mr. O'Dowd
229. Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the allocation for funds under the disabled persons grant will be made to Louth County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23837/02]
Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Cullen) Martin Cullen
Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Cullen): Local authorities receive a total combined annual capital allocation from my Department in respect of the disabled persons and essential repairs grant schemes and house purchase and improvement loans. The breakdown of the allocation between the different schemes is a matter for individual authorities in the light of local circumstances.
Louth County Council received an allocation of €500,000 for these purposes in June. Since then, in view of the level of expenditure and commitments entered into, this allocation has been increased to its current level of €1.554 million.
I propose to make a specific grant allocation covering both the disabled persons and essential repairs grants in 2003.
