171. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the extent to which he proposes to generate interest in the arts in all schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22957/02]

Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism (Mr. O'Donoghue): The place of the arts in the schools' curricula is a matter for the Minister for Education and Science. In the context of the enactment of the Arts Bill, 2002, it will be my intention to have discussions with my colleague, the Minister for Education and Science, to explore how my Department and the Arts Council might assist in this matter.
