  267. Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received the report of the consultants engaged to assist in the review of fire safety and fire services; if it is intended to publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17652/02]

  Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Cullen): The final report of the consultants engaged to assist the strategic review of fire safety and fire services in Ireland was published on 11 March 2002. A copy of the report is available in the Oireachtas Library. In order to progress the strategic review, I have had extensive discussions with the Fire Services Council and have more recently invited stakeholders in a spirit of partnership, to engage in a process for moving forward key recommendations of the report at national and local level, in so far as they concern services within the remit of my Department. Work to this end is now proceeding.
