1393. Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position on an application from a person (details supplied) to serve the remainder of their prison sentence here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16602/02]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell): I can inform the Deputy that the transfer application of the person concerned is currently being considered by the law officers of the State to ensure that the requirements of the Council of Europe Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and the Transfer of Sentenced Persons Act, 1995 and 1997, are satisfied. I have asked that this case be expedited in the light of the circumstances.
