177. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress over the course of the past two months with regard to free school transport for the children of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14930/02]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey): The family in question reside 1.1 miles from the schools attended. Under the terms of the school transport scheme the children are not basically eligible for school transport, as they reside less than two miles from their nearest school. In any event, there is no official school bus service from their area on which they could be accommodated.
