  46. Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to an application for funding from the Ábalta School in Knocknacarra, County Galway; and if he will consider this application given the heavy financial burden on parents. [2777/02]

  Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): I am aware of the issue to which the Deputy refers. The application in question is the subject of ongoing discussions between officials of my Department, the National Educational Psychological Service and representatives of the [987] parents involved in the Ábalta project. A further meeting with the parents has been arranged for 7/8 February 2002. I hope these discussions will lead to a positive outcome so that the necessary supports can be put in place as speedily as possible.
