Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera): The position is that the Asgard Restoration Project, with the consent of the Minister for Defence, who is the owner of the vessel, has assumed responsibility for its restoration. My only involvement in the matter was limited to securing Government approval to issue the group a “Licence to Alter” the vessel, as required by the National Monuments Acts, so that restoration might proceed. The licence was issued on 23 December 1999.
