Mr. Durkan Mr. Durkan
 137. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the number of daily commuter services from the rail stations at Kilcock, Maynooth, Leixlip and Confey, in County Kildare; if these services adequately cater for current and projected needs; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Mrs. O'Rourke Mrs. O'Rourke
Minister for Public Enterprise (Mrs. O'Rourke): Iarnród Éireann informs me that there are 21 departures per day from Maynooth to Dublin, 19 of which serve all stations from Maynooth and two of which are express from Maynooth only. There are 21 departures per day from Dublin to Maynooth, 19 of which serve all stations, and two which are express to Maynooth. The company informs me that this represents an increase of approx 150% in the capacity on the Maynooth line since the commencement of new services in August this year.
While this is a major improvement in service levels, Iarnród Éireann accepts that the demand for services continues to grow. I understand from Iarnród Éireann that further increases in capacity will require an upgrade in the track and signalling system at Connolly Station. Planning and design work in this regard is currently being undertaken by Iarnród Éireann.
