Mr. Naughten Mr. Naughten
 295. Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when he plans to have the new computerised district livestock office system installed at locations around the country; when the computerisation of the Roscommon office will take place in view of the current overcrowded situation at this location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26782/01]
Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Mr. Walsh): Since 1994 a computerised district livestock office system has been in place in the Department's district livestock offices throughout the country, including Roscommon. Since then, regular upgrades to the district livestock office system have taken place, in line with the Department's information technology plans over the period.
The Department is currently upgrading the computer network and hardware across all offices to provide access to future web-based applications. There is a requirement to have in place additional accommodation for the environmental and technical protection of the computer equipment. The network and hardware upgrade in the Roscommon office will not be possible until the accommodation issues are addressed. The Office of Public Works is actively working on the provision of new-temporary accommodation for the Department's staff in Roscommon town.
