153. Ms Harney Ms Harney
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment (Ms Harney): The management of industrial property and its marketing to suitable overseas companies is a day to day matter for IDA Ireland and not one in which I have a direct function.
However, I understand that since January 1999, there have been nine site visits to the Kilbarry Industrial Park, which have been arranged by IDA Ireland for prospective foreign direct investment projects.
There are three IDA Ireland assisted companies operating in the park – Yves Roches, Flextronics and Option International – which employ a total of 671 people. Flextronics announced an expansion to create 300 jobs in April 2000 and has completed the building for this expansion. Option International was located elsewhere in the city and relocated to the Kilbarry Industrial Park in March 2000.
There are also two Enterprise Ireland client companies located on the park – Seamar Chemicals and Techsources Manufacturing Limited. The Kilbarry Industrial Park is a very important part of the industrial infrastructure in the Cork region and Enterprise Ireland brings it to the attention of any indigenous Irish manufacturing company seeking suitable premises in the Cork area or to manufacturing companies wishing to expand outside Dublin City. Approximately ten inquiries are received by Enterprise Ireland each year resulting in about six visits to the park.
IDA Ireland has recently received planning permission for the construction of three new buildings in the park, which will come on stream as demand requires, reflecting IDA Ireland's active involvement with the park.
