Mrs. O'Rourke Mrs. O'Rourke
Minister for Public Enterprise (Mrs. O'Rourke): The responsibility for ensuring the safety of railway operations is a matter for Iarnród Éireann and is not one in which I have a function. As I stated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 126 of 26 June 2001, Iarnród Éireann has advised me that all new rolling stock is purchased to current internationally recognised safety standards and that older rolling stock was purchased to internationally recognised safety standards which pertained at the time of purchase.
