89. Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the Government policy on the health implications of high voltage pylons; and the in-depth research on this issue on which policy is based. [24540/01]

Minister for Public Enterprise (Mrs. O'Rourke): I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 97 of 8 March 2001. My Department monitors all relevant research on this topic closely. It is not the practice in this country to allow the construction of new homes under electricity transmission lines nor are new transmission lines allowed overhang existing houses. My Department's chief technical adviser would be glad to brief the Deputy in greater detail if he so wishes.
